My current projects

A list of my current projects with some pretty cool AI imagery

My current projects

So - what on Earth makes me think that I should get a book deal? What qualifies me to get something that so many people dream about? Well, in short, I’ve got four big-ish projects in various stages of development that I think would all make excellent books (or TV shows).

Part of this depth and breadth of work comes from my distractibility and scattergun approach. Part of it comes from my being interested in writing about pretty much everything. I love trying to fashion stories out of new settings, building worlds and creating interesting characters. So below I’ve listed my projects and their current stage of development and submission.

If anyone is interested in reading early drafts, don't hesitate to ask. I love getting feedback as it either helps me improve my stories, gives me a sense of how enthusiastic I should be, or tells me which things to not bother with for now.

Project 1: All Good Things (Crime Novel)

This is my main project at the moment, which I'm pitching to agents and publishers. It's a somewhat offbeat crime novel set on Mersea Island, featuring explosions, murders, and a plethora of quirky characters. This project has been in final draft form for a couple of years, which is why I'm pushing to find it a home. If I don't succeed this year, I might revise it, possibly changing some of the characters.

Project 2: Life (Sci-Fi Novel)

This is my expansive sci-fi novel, a galaxy-trotting adventure based on a simple question: What if the Big Bad Empire is pretty good? Currently, in its first draft stage, I'm tweaking the main character to make him more engaging. After the initial draft, it was clear he was a somewhat passive character whose main purpose was to make a big decision at the end.

Project 3: Untitled (Fantasy Novel)

Inspired by my recent reading of fantasy authors like Brandon Sanderson, I'm creating my fantasy world. However, it's turned out to be larger than expected (the book, not just the world). I'm about one-third through the story and already 40,000 words in. I'm enjoying crafting these strange, wonderful worlds and characters, so I'm spending most of my time on this project.

Project 4: The Man I Once Became (Script)

This sci-fi film (or TV) script has been a bit of a brain-melter. I love the premise, but writing it has been a struggle. It's about time travel and finding a payoff that isn't too obvious. At the moment, this project is on the back burner, but I believe the idea is strong enough to pursue.

That's a brief and somewhat vague overview of my current writing projects. Over the coming weeks and months, I'll delve into each of these projects, sharing details about the plot, background, and my thoughts behind them. This should give you an idea of how I think and hopefully invite some feedback.

If any of these projects sound good, send me a message and I can share what I've completed so far. Don't worry about offending me; I'm not precious. Please get in touch if you'd like to have a read.

Love ya

Phil
